In our newly founded department "Construction Robotics", we are working on shaping the construction of the future with the help of robots and automation. The automation of construction tasks can make a significant contribution to increasing efficiency in the construction sector by shortening construction times, increasing construction quality and optimizing energy consumption. Physically demanding tasks such as lifting and carrying heavy objects can be avoided. Instead, more attractive jobs can be created using robots and digitization.
Most current work in the field of construction robotics either automates existing construction machinery designed for human operation or uses existing robots to automate manual construction processes. Most building systems and construction components are not adapted to the requirements of robots and vice versa. As a result, the full potential of robotic construction is currently not exploited. The lack of implementation of robotic on-site construction processes in the industry highlights the need for reliable, robust, efficient, and safe robotic on-site building systems.
Our long-term vision is to develop a robust robotic construction system for automated assembly and disassembly. Such a robotic construction system shall comprise a robot/robots, building components and automated assembly processes, which are all designed to work together and are compatible with each other.
